Hey All,

I was just wondering if any plans have started for RWB 08 ?? Id love to be a part of it; as my husband and I have full intentions of attending this year. We also have a teenager whose turning 18 in March. He's curious if he'll be old enough to attend? I have other teenagers; who might need to come with us; just so they can take turns babysitting their 9 mo. old sister. We're expecting her at the end of this month! But if need be they can probably all go stay the weekend with g'parents! Looking forward to any details that can be shared.

BB,
Kim

My wife and I announced at RWB 2007 that we will not host a Real Witches Ball 2008. Frankly, the majority of people who call themselves witches and Wiccans now disgust us. I think it is a result of the marketing of McWicca in a Box as if it were the whole of Witchcraft when it is not even what Wicca itself once was. For what ever reason, the word witch now seems to be defined as a-moral spineless types who insist on forcing their sense of spineless a-morality on other folk.

We are considering the creation of a new event, one with a theme which promotes an Authorian agenda (might for rite) which celebrates the arts, beauty, and service to community in a renaissance setting. Pagan and Heathen programming will most likely be a part of this event and there are already plans for a Pagan Nation Clan suite of events. But the word witch is not something we feel we should use to attract guests to an event we host.

Note: This should not be thought as a condemnation of all people who call themselves witches or Wiccan. We have some fine friends who use those words. But the majority of those who use it are not the type of people we want around our children.

I think it is kind of like the word Christian. If someone is loud about using the word, chances are they are not the folk we want to hang with. But hat does not mean we do not have wonderful, sweet, soulful friends who are Christians.

~ Dear A.J,
~~~~~~~ Out of mere curiosity, I must ask you something then. I now use the word Witch when it comes to myself. I am not Wiccan. I have my own sense of morals and principals, and my own sense of what is right or wrong and how I should conduct myself when it comes to those things... I do not need to follow "The Rede"... I have my own to follow, and it most definitely does not involve in any way, "looking the other way"... so I must ask you, am I one of those Witches that disgust you and Aimee? Would you and she, personally consider myself to be one of those "unwelcome witches"?..... Yeah, yeah, I know.... "curiosity killed the cat".... Whatever. They got nine lives too. So I am asking for an honest answer. I'm a big girl... and I'm sure I can take it, no matter what it is.Meow.
I will somtimes use the word witch but not often. I like Pagan or Pagan with Christian beliefs. (No don't want to go there)
I think that taking a stand for something good is what he is talking about (not speaking for AJ) like not wanting to see the Frost's book in print or being sold any more. Not letting their belief be the foundation of what Wicca is/should be based on.
Make sense? \:\)
~~~ Yes, that does make sense. And AJ knows how I feel about the "frosts"... even though I am not "screaming from the roof tops." But I do say that I am Witch, and quite proudly. I'm not all "in your face" about it though. I do not shout it from the roof tops, nor flaunt it, or add to it's stereotypes by how I dress, walk, and talk. (at least I hope I don't) ... I will admit though, that I don't exactly look "ordinary" either. I'm old enough to be a grandmother and wear a Mohawk. (That's because I'm a freak though. Not because I am Witch)
~~~ I guess I just was asking AJ (in a round about sort of way) if he still holds the same opinion of me as he once did.
~~~ I wanted to go to the '07 Ball but could not. I hope that one day I will get to attend one of AJ's events and meet him face to face. But I would look for some other event to go to if he were to concider me one of those "unwelcome" type of witches. Just wanted to know which side of the coin I am on in his book.
~~~ Should I not have asked?
My family and I would love to be a part of that AJ, and if you need help with any of the planning, volunteers, etc just say the word. We will have to travel from Middle Lower Michigan, so please keep that in mind; as travel costs these days are NOT getting any cheaper. Looking forward to hearing more details when you are able to disclose them.
Blessings,
Kim
I do not know you well enough to judge. Follow me on this concept for just a moment. In the forums, I asked Dr. Buckland about a previous statement he had made about covering up the amount of sex that was involved in Wicca back in the day. He had previously stated basicly that a deliberate effort was made to do so.
Dr. Buckland said: "In those "old" days the majority of people's ideas of witchcraft were along the lines of Satanism and black magic, with wild orgies, etc!"
Of the people who flocked to "the craft" at he time, Dr. Buckland said: "That's why there were so many who wanted the Craft because they thought it would give them access to wild sex."
Now that was before things like the Teen Witch Kit and all the other mass marketing tools created by Llewellyn Worldwide and other entities bent on making a buck on the latest fad.
Consider this: I understand Dorothy Morrison is a traditionaly trained Georgian Wiccan. She wrote a book called in Praise of the Crone which is heartfelt and full of soul. She wrote a book called Everyday Magick with is a collection of spells. Which one do you think made her big time at Llewellyn Worldwide and has several sequels?
Am I disguested by the people within this community who think that In Praise of the Crone is an important part of the community? Oh hell no. Even if you don't like the book, it is a matter of the soul, of heart, of something that matters. However, the number of people who have read this book are tiny compared to the number of people who have read Everyday Magic and think that the contents of that book are seriously important to our community.
I am reminded of something MR Sellars said to me while talking about this. He said that that's why he writes fiction. But instead of calling Everyday Magic a piece of fiction, such is held up as a self help book; as if buring a green candle (or what ever) is going to get your rent paid.
For the great overwhelming majority of people who call themselves witches and wiccans, books like Everyday Magic define what they call a religion. Not my cup of tea.
I think things are today like Dr. Buckland described it back in day, the thing that has changed is that people are not flocking to the movement for sex anymore (it is readily available elsewhere now a days). Instead, they are flocking to the movement for their morphine fix, for their fantasy fix.
I don't know you well enough to say if you are one of these folk. Do you have kids? I know you are wed. Not that these things define a person as stable and worthwhile, but the nuttier ones have their kids taken away (thank god) and wind up often divorced.
Frankly, I am not sure why Dr. Buckland bothered with the word if it attracted the people he did not like. Why not move on and callit something like: Kumbaluba?
Yep and with Gavin and Yvonne Frost insiting that they founded Wicca, I started not being so sure that I wanted to use the word anymore. Upon realizing that the majority of organizations, events, and authors dont care to do a thing about it; dont care to say Oh hell no, well I gotta figure that as there is no central authority to Wicca, nobody to say No, well that means that sexualy initiating children IS part of Wicca.
Not my cup of tea. Besides, it was an Army Chaplain that gave me the title in the first place. I had called myself Pagan, that wasnt appropriate for dog tags. He told me its just a word. He is right. Now that word means something I do not like.
You see back in the day, I was taught that he Old Religion (that is what we called it) was based on values, ethics, and morals. I met people with strong convictions who wanted to change the world and secure a palce in it for their kith and kin. Now, not so much. Lots more people, but few with any spine.
Emily_Celest - I don't think I held an opinion of you in the time frame you are talking about. Didn't even know we had previously talked. You did not exist. Then we got into a big old stink and that caused you to stick. So now you exist in my mind. That could be a step up or down depending on how you look at it. Some folk don't much like being in there.
I can not properly describe the way my brain works since the accident. Not that I want pity or anything. Just want you to understand my answer.
The other day, my heart almost stopped in fear. I was watching Blues Clues with my baby boy on my lap. All of a sudden, he wasn't there anymore. What had actually happened, my wife took the baby. I had handed him to her, but the memory never made it past short term.
I will drive somewhere, forget where I am going along the way, and realize I have no clue where I am. I then wander around figuring out where I am so I can drive home, where my wife tells me where i was going in the first place and I try again.
If I stay completely and totaly focused on something, I am fine. If I repeat something over and over again, I am fine. But a bunch of casual conversations and forums posts, well not so Ok.
Its funny, I looked up moderators reciently and discovered we had a few that I not only do not remember becoming moderators, but do not remember being members of Pagan Nation.
I guess I am not a people person.
I realize this will probably start a new thread somewhere else; or possibly get moved; but a comment that you made AJ sparks my curiosity.
You said
 Quote:
So my question is this: do you hold any faith/stock in the results of spell working? Or do you consider any/all spell working to be "fiction" ?? Not trying to split hairs here; just a random thought that popped into my mind. What about everyone else? What are your views on spell working?
Blessed Be,
Kim
