Merry meet. My name is A.J. Drew. I founded the previous Pagan Nation decades ago. Then, after a traumatic brain injury I went insane. Due to my mismanagement during the drooling stage, it crumbled under its own weight. This is a new start. About nothing here works yet, but I am throwing myself into it.
Aren’t You Dead?
Sometimes I feel like it, but no I am not dead. Weren’t you struck by lightning? Again, though sometimes I feel like it, no I was not struck by lightning. Here is the short of the story. In July 2006, I received a moderate traumatic brain injury via electrocution. Rehab neurologist explained that there was very little research in that area because more typically the patient’s heart fails before there is brain damage. I guess I have a good heart.
I was prescribed many medicines which helped with cognitive functions but had horrible emotional side effects. Eventually, I stopped taking them because I preferred to have a healthy soul than a healthy memory / cognitive functions. Years later, other complications cost me to undergo several minor amputations on my feet which have left me unable to walk without pain medication. So to sum up, if you join Pagan Nation you have a brain damaged webmaster who is often stoned.
So why the sudden effort to reestablish Pagan Nation? Since the initial injury, I have taken to rural life. In fact, we have built a business around our farm. It can be found online at Peppers by Mail. Online, our focus is rare and unusual peppers. On the farm, the focus is produce. We’ve even moved into providing CSA shares this year. It is everything I have always felt the word pagan mean. Ah, but farming require feet.
Internet programming is my ‘plan b’. Hopefully, Peppers by Mail and our produce sales will continue to grow. If I am to loose my feet or legs, hopefully the farm will be staffed by then and I can do the sit down jobs. I have also started to put my hand craft and hand forged goods online at Renaissance Creations. But that too would go south fast if I were to loose mobility.
The other concern is I tend to spend much time hospitalized these last few years. It is hard to manage a farm or forge from a hospital bed. Managing web services is not only possible from a hospital bed, the drugs are better so some of the funniest ideas comes out of those stays.
So it for the Money?
While Pagan Nation rises again, I am sure that will be the chant in some circle. The simple answer is yes I have to earn to support my family. But a person should love his or her work. I do enjoy the challenge of Internet programming, the creativity that is possible is amazing. To top it off, I miss some of you folk. On days when I simply can not walk, I imagine the conversations here will keep a smile on my face. So yes, I intend to sell memberships and advertising. In fact, your support is very much needed.
