Help Needed – Please donate, share, or do what you can
I have been struggling with the new software for Pagan Nation. I feel it is very close to being bullet proof. It is designed so that once the core software is rock solid, I can create expansion modules easily. But my challenge now is elsewhere. We are struggling with serious financial hardship.
I hate to say it, but I am going to have to reset Pagan Nation once again. We are getting spammed to death and the current set up is far too confusing. Not that the frost has taken the last of my garden, I am working almost full time on the new set up.
New Look coming soon..
So we are getting spammed to death. As soon as the farm is done for the season, I will be rewriting how the wall and group feature works. Merging sites and groups in a way that makes sense. Done with changing off the shelf software.
Chat Installed & Get drunk with me
I installed a chat that looks very promising. If you are signed in, it should be on the bottom menu thing. You can create a public room, moderate it yourself. You can use it as an instant messenger for other members. You can see which of your friends are online. Oh and did I mention it does video chat.
Spent much time tonight working on the classified section. I do not have many categories set up but we do not have members enough to be concerned yet. So the next step is to work on other areas that need improved to attract members.
Welcome Johnny Adams
As you can see, the site is still clunky. However, the name you choose is established and the url for your site / blog is operating. Your blog is itself fully functional, but it still depends on the back end to post and add pages. A front end, easier to use version is in the works. Thank you for being one of the few willing to spend a bit of time to get the place humming properly.
Working on Layout
I am now working on the layout. Specifically, creating a more clear difference between a site, group, and member page.
Sign up and site spam gone
In the last 24 hours, we have had over 3,000 sign ups from spam bots. However, they are not getting to the activation screen. So while they fill out the form for new membership and are sent an email to activate their account, the thing does not activate. I count this as a victory but will come back to figuring out how to prevent the sign up attempt later. For now, working on new menu and commenting system.
Problem with member site themes
There is a problem with the front page of member sites. I will work and fix this tonight.
Spam seems better…
Membership and site creation spam seem all addressed. We have not had one spam user or site creation in about 24 hours. Comment spam continues. The service we are using to address that problem says it takes about a week or two before it subsides. It takes that long for them to learn the pattern of a sites particular spammers. So fingers crossed.
